I am Mohamed Hussain from Sri Lanka. I successfully created an Aircraft Modern Black box System for our BSc (Hons) Software Engineering Degree Program Final project. This is my first project in the Aviation field. This project is developed with 12 electronic modules like sensors and actuators along with software and hardware on a PCB. With this modern black box system, a Flight can be monitored via Radio Communication completely through a computer application.

Abstract

The Aircraft Modern Black Box System is a new IoT system to monitor an Aircraft. With this system, we can monitor the flight and all the functions of the flight and record the data in the SD card module. This system was developed by Printed Circuit Board (PCB) and C# Computer Application.

This system was designed in two parts one is the main device which is a black box it has all sensors, actuators, and the radio signal transceiver. the second module is a receiver module it will receive the data from the black box. then the receiver module will send the data to the Application via the cable. the receiver module will be connected to the computer.

This system's main aim is to monitor the whole flight accurately and maintain it. using this system, can control the flight crushes and the malfunctions of the flight and quickly analyze it the recorded data.

Scope of the System

This aircraft's modern black box system has many scopes which will be very helpful to the aircraft department. in the sky traffic, lots of the flights will be flying at the same time. this black box system has a unique radio signal ID so all data will be transferred by one signal so the receiver module can quickly get access to the flight, The system has a GPS so the control panel can quickly track the flight's GPS position, can understand the flight's engine and the body health conditions, by this system, control panel operators can identifying the malfunctions of the flight, maintain the flight without manual testing, and unfortunately, If the Aircraft is crushed, the Aircraft Engineers can quickly find the accurate location of the Aircraft.

The Aircraft's modern black box system's main scope is to control the flight and land it at the near airport during an emergency. This project's Application has a Narrator option If any wrong value is detected, the narrator assistant will inform the wrong value of the flight via voice message to the control panel. So by the narrator option, the maintainers can predict the flight's condition and they can take decisions about it.

Hardware System Implementation

This black box system is mainly in two sections one is the main device which is a black box and the second is a receiver device which will receive the data from the black box main device. This system has 8 sensors as Tilt angle, Vibration, GPS, DHT11, MQ2 Gas sensor, IR speed sensor, DS temperature sensor, and Gyro sensor. as well as this system is developed with 5 actuators such as a 433Mhz Transmitter, Arduino nano, Atmega328p pu IC, DC Motor, SD card reader module. these sensors and actuators are fixed on the Printed Circuit Board (PCB).

This is a schematic diagram of the system's circuit diagram. all the components and the headers are placed in the proper place.



The 3D design of the Black Box Device PCB. after the circuit schematic diagram, it was converted to the 3D design.



This is a final printed PCB board. The two types of PCB boards were printed. one is a black box PCB and the second is a receiver module PCB.



In this PCB connection part, All the connections such as sensor connection, soldering, and wiring are Included. Step by Step everything is explained.



Step-by-step sensors are fixed in the system as well as this black box device has 4 layers so one by one all layers are fixed.



After fixing the sensor one by one, the system was tested by coding whether it is working successfully or not.



This is the Final result of the black box device system. this system's sensors and actuators work successfully and with high accuracy.



This is the receiver module of this system. this system successfully received the data from the black box and stored it in the SD card module as well as sent the data to the computer application.



This is the final output data of the Black Box System. The receiver module successfully shared the data with the Computer Application Visualizing Monitor.
